An original musical, Cooking with Bubbie begins its national tour in Skokie, Illinois, and will travel the country before setting in for a New York run. At a “taping” of her fictional TV cooking show, everyone’s favorite Jewish Grandmother, “The Bubbie” entertains you with an old-fashioned variety show with dancers, comedy sketches, and fourteen original songs including “Schmaltz”, “A Little Nosh”, and “Shattered Glass”.

Chicago comedienne Jan Slavin and Gold Coast Cabaret Award winner Carla Gordon alternate in the role of the Bubbie. The show also stars Jessica Lauren Fisher, Jeri Hart, Connor Norton, Jessica Surprenant plus Wilson Hicken on the piano and Andrew Pond as J.T. The show is directed by Wayne Mell, with musical direction by Aaron Kaplan and choreography by Marrianne Brown.  Costume Design is by Patty Halajian, with lighting by Pat Henderson and sound design by Matthew Chase

Cooking With Bubbie was originally scheduled to open on March 19, 2020, but the production was put on hiatus when the state entered pandemic lockdown during final dress rehearsals.

MadKap Productions is producing Cooking With Bubbie in conjunction with Orchard Street Productions and is written by founder and President, Jay Kholos. Kholos’ other work includes the Off-Broadway hit musical A Stoop on Orchard Street which enjoyed a sixteen-month run and a north american tour, with more than 1,000 performances to date. He also produced and directed ongoing national tour productions of Golda’s Balcony, Old Jews Telling Jokes and Wiesenthal.
