NOT SO LITTLE ANYMORE

On February 2, 2021, A Little New Music continues its “Spotlight Series” with the music of multi-talented composer/lyricist Rob Rokicki of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical (see our review).  Co-hosted by ALNM co-producers Luke H. Klipp and Kila Packett, Rokicki, who has been a featured writer in three ALNM concerts, will look back at ALNM’s  archives as well as debut something new from a current project. Join the conversation LIVE on YouTube and Facebook beginning at 7pm PT / 10pm ET. If you can’t make it that night, subscribe to their YouTube channel and check out over 200 videos of theater songs from their past 20+ shows, as well as previous “Spotlight Series” shows.

In partnership with The ASCAP Foundation, A Little New Music has been supporting musical theatre songwriters since 2013, bringing fast-paced programs showcasing the best new and unheard musical theater songs, from established composers to promising up-and-comers. Performed by Broadway and premiere LA talent, A Little New Music has been supporting musical theatre songwriters since 2013. The “Spotlight Series”, created when theater took a hiatus, is a bi-monthly live streamed concert series featuring the work of a different writer/writing team every few weeks.

Aside from The Lightning Thief, of which Rokicki is the composer/lyricist and co-orchestrator (book by Joe Tracz), his graphic novel musical Monstersongs received a World Premiere Recording from Broadway Records, his immersive musical Experience Marianas was developed at Cap21/Molloy College, and he wrote music and lyrics for Uni the Unicorn, commissioned by Bay Area Children’s Theater. He is co-arranging and orchestrating Punk Rock Girl (book by Joe Iconis), and is one of five writing teams involved with an upcoming musical by book writers Jodi Picoult and Timothy McDonald. He is a two-time Larson Award finalist, alum of the BMI writing workshop, and proud educator (@rrokicks).

And do keep your eye on A Little New Music. Just a few songwriters represented have been Sankoff & Hein (Come From Away); Pasek & Paul (Dear Evan Hansen); Joe Iconis (Be More Chill); Matt Gould & Griffin Matthews (Witness Uganda); Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop); and Gregory Nabours (The Trouble with Words).
