DRIVE ME TO THE END OF LOVE

The 2019 American drama film Driveways, directed by Andrew Ahn and starring Brian Dennehy, was a hit when it premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in February, 2019. It missed theatrical release due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but was released on video-on-demand on May 7, 2020 (it currently stands at 100% Fresh on RottenTomatoes. The soundtrack album — now available for streaming — is not just rich in spirit, but a soothing tonic for these challenging times. Each of composer Jay Wadley’s tracks, whether small chamber groupings or solo piano, are gorgeously reflective New Age music with light harmonic melodies that sear the soul, giving us a deep sense of reflection and nostalgia. With a gentle but assured touch. the composer’s strokes of love evoke the grand majesty of the human experience. The 20 tracks are short, just 30 minutes all told, but it’s such a lovely journey. One of my favorite soundtracks in some time.

It’s also an apt musical memorial for Mr. Dennehy, one of the greatest actors America has ever produced, who passed not long after this film was released.
