LET’S ALL GO TO THE MOVIE MUSICALS

The brilliant American Tenor Brian Cheney has been giving thirty-minute recitals from his home since the quarantine began. The completely different shows — which moved from Saturdays to Thursdays at 7pm EST (4pm PST) — offer a thoroughly winning program each week. One mini-concert showcased the lush and beautiful music from French composers. French Kissed offered up a taste of French Opera as well as French Art Song. Then it was two programs of Musical Theatre Faves! from South PacificMan of La ManchaInto the Woods and more. Know that these are live, and cannot be streamed after the fact, which is what makes them even more fun.

Now, Cheney offers up his second Movie Musicals program, his 12th Weekly Performance on on Stageit, an online venue for live & interactive virtual concerts providing fans with a front row seat to a backstage experience. This Thursday, June 25, 2020, at at 7pm EDT, Pianist Cathy Venable, who joined Cheney in his acclaimed recital at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2008. will join him in a split-screen performance of musical numbers from famous movie musicals.

Venable, a versatile artist in her own right, is currently serving as Associate Conductor for the first National Tour of Frozen. She has held similar positions in National Tours such as The Phantom of the Opera and The Sound of Music. A classically trained pianist, Venable has served as Assistant Conductor and rehearsal pianist with companies such as Salt Marsh Opera and Light Opera Oklahoma as well as playing in numerous Broadway pits. Tickets for this event are “pay what you can” and can be purchased at Stageit.

I have enjoyed every show to the fullest. Brian is a remarkable artist/singer/musician and a delightful, spirited person. Can’t wait for the new show on Thursday.
