4 REASONS TO DIGITIZE YOUR MOVIE COLLECTION

The world that we’re living in is an increasingly digital one, where TV series and movies can be easily viewed online. However, this leaves a question mark hanging over your existing DVD collection. You almost certainly have plenty of DVDs in your home taking up precious space. Now, the time has come to clean out your collection and digitize it so you can get rid of the clutter.

A major problem with DVDs is that they have a relatively short lifespan. If you’ve filed yours away, put them in boxes, or simply put them in your entertainment center, the chances are that the option you’ve chosen isn’t the best idea for long-term storage.

DVDs have a lifespan of around 5 – 10 years, and this is even shorter if they’re exposed to heat, humidity, and other environmental factors. Therefore, it’s time to move the data on those DVDs to a place that’s more reliable and long-lasting.

Do you need more convincing as to why you should consider digitizing your DVD movie collection? Then, here are 4 reasons to consider film conversion.

1. Future-Proofing

Data storage is continually evolving. Videotapes, cassette tapes, and vinyl records have already fallen out of favor and DVDs are already on their way out. Since TV shows and movies have been made available via online platforms, the sales of DVDs have declined. Eventually, DVD players will become difficult to find, and there will be no way of playing your extensive collection. With this in mind, digitizing your movies will future-proof them, ensuring that you can continue watching all your favorites for years to come.

2. Decluttering Your Home

Modern living spaces are increasingly shrinking. If you’re living in a city, the chances are that your apartment is far too small to house a growing DVD movie collection. Finding more creative ways of storing things is key, and a top way of making space is decluttering. Get rid of drawers, bookshelves, and cabinets filled with DVDs and save the data on the cloud instead. This allows you to donate or recycle your existing DVDs and save valuable room.

3. Watch Your Movies Anywhere

Most of us have multiple portable devices. Smartphones, tablets, and laptops have meant that having content and data available at any time and through any device is imperative. Digitizing your collection allows you to view your favorite movies no matter where you are.

4. Convenience Is Paramount

Finding the movies you want to view can be a real challenge unless you have an exceptionally well-organized collection Reading the spines of DVDs in endless racks can be difficult and we all know the frustration of searching for a movie that has gone missing in action. When your movies are digitized and on the cloud, finding them is as simple as just typing in the title, so you’ll save hassle, time, and effort.

Digitizing Your Collection – It Makes Sense

It’s clear that there are many great reasons for digitizing your DVD movie collection. You’ll be able to create an impressive and comprehensive system that makes it a breeze to find any item without any difficulties and, even better, you’ll be able to view your favorites from any device.

Most home movie DVDs are Read-Only (-R) discs. Which means, after you burn the DVD, you can’t even add or remove one byte of data on it, you can only Read the DVD, not change it.
