THE RYHTHM OF CUBA COMES TO THE
MUSIC CENTER FOR ONE DAY ONLY

Cuba: Antes, Ahora / Then, Now is a celebration of the art of Cuba, and Angelinos will get the chance to experience the country’s dynamic arts from November 30-December 2, 2017. Among the more than 48 world-class Cuban musicians, dancers and visual artists coming to The Music Center and Grand Park in Los Angeles is the Havana-based Malpaso Dance Company.

Home to iconic dance traditions such as the Habanera, Son, Mambo and Cha-Cha, Cuba has a deep history, as “a dancing island.” Malpaso honors that history yet creates a dance vocabulary all its own, blending ballet technique with earthy modern dance articulated by fluid athleticism.

Feel the rhythm of Cuba with the syncopated movements led by charismatic Artistic Director Osnel Delgado. Committed to bringing Cuban contemporary dance into the 21st century, Malpaso fuses movement from the streets with traditional dance by collaborating with top international choreographers and nurturing new voices in Cuban choreography. The Music Center has commissioned  a brand-new piece that pairs So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Sonya Tayeh with the dancers of Malpaso.

Here are two links of interest. The first is The Music Center’s President and CEO Rachel Moore chatting with Delgado. The second is information on the complete program.
